La Villette |
Located on old the abattoirs of Paris, the Park of the Villette
is an active space, a new district of meeting, culture and leisure.
Place of exhibitions, documentation, communication and search, the
City presents the largest
scientific, technological projections of our time. Using the most
recent techniques of audio-visual and data- rocessing communications,
it proposes multiple and complementary activities and offers a new
way of lear ning, of listening and of being moved so that each one
remains an actor of the future world. It is the largest Park Intra
Muros of Paris.

PARC DES BUTTES CHAUMONT

Parc de la Villette |
The park was built in the 1860's during Baron Haussmann's famous
transformation of the city. It features a lake, mock Roman ruins,
and very lush vegetation. It is quite a refreshing escape from the
hustle and bustle of the city. We saw many Parisians (and their
dogs) enjoying the beautiful morning with an invigorating jog around
the park.
The center of the park contains a circular lake with a 16-story
mountain of sheer rock walls rising in the center, which is what
you see in this photograph. At the top of this mountain is a small
gazebo with a commanding view of the surrounding area of Paris to
the west. |
CITÉ DES SIENCES ET DE L’INDUSTRIE – EXPLORA
SCIENCE MUSEUM
One of the world's largest and most visited science museums, La
Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie is on an impressive modern
site in north-eastern Paris. La Cité is located at the top
of the park de la Villette and is a masterwork of modern architecture.
The Cité des Sciences allows the visitors to touch and play
with various subjects of experiences such as sounds, robots, computer
science, expression and behaviour, oceans, energy, light, the environment,
mathematics, space. With its interactive computers, multimedia displays,
videos, holograms, animated models and games, this museum permits
the visitor to "explore" and discover.
The Explora Museum is the place where you can pilot an airplane,
step inside of a camera, travel throughout the human body, visit
the Ariane rocket, and much more, a special visit if you are travelling
with children. |
CITÉ DE LA MUSIQUE
The Cité de la Musique (City of Music), in the late-modernist
park de la Villette, is one spectacular success among former President
Mitterrand's ambitious public works projects. The Cité is
a post-modern structure containing exhibit space, classrooms, a
cafe and a museum shop, and, most importantly, concert spaces featuring
vocal and instrumental classical music, jazz and world music.
