In the 12th Arrondissement, lies Place de la Nation, in which there was originally a guillotine, and the Picpus cemetery, where all those guillotined were buried. This area is also famous for its “Chinatown”: it was born in the late 1970's and early 1980's with the arrival of the "boat people" from Vietnam. In 1982, the first Chinese store open its doors. Now, there are over 150 restaurants in this south-western part of Paris. To the south-east of this neighbourhood, is the Palais Omnisports of Bercy.
